homemade mango chutney

A Boushell and a Peck

http://simplyrecipes.com/recipes/homemade_mango_chutney/

A number of you have requested the cheese ball recipe. The nice thing about it is that you can blend it in Cuisenart for a dip or you can make it into 3 nice size cheese balls and freeze for future use. It does not stay as garlicky but it is still very tasty. Here's my doctored up recipe for Matha Stewart's Old Farmhouse Chutney Cheese Ball:

Old Farmhouse Chutney Cheese Ball
Serves 12 to 20

16 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
1/2 cup any chutney- I use a whole jar of Trader Joe’s mango chutney
1/4 cup finely chopped scallions, white and pale-green parts
1 medium clove garlic, minced
1/2 cup shredded Colby cheese
1/2 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
1+ cup coarsely chopped pecans
Thinly sliced Granny Smith apple, for garnish

In a medium bowl, combine cream cheese, chutney, scallions, and garlic.

Stir until well blended.

Add Colby and Monterey Jack cheese, and stir to combine; season with salt and pepper. (don't skip this part)

Form into a lg. ball or 3 smaller one's, and roll ball in pecans.

Garnish with apple, and serve. Keeps well.

Tastes even better after a day or so.

"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord and not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord.
It is the Lord Christ you are serving."

Food is always a popular theme for bibs. The cheery cherry is backed in white terry and has an retro white button for fastening. The latest bibs I've made are larger in the shoulder and in length for babies who are feeding themselves- they like to smoosh their food all over themselves!

Under the Sea Ideas

Here is a jellyfish that my friend Tamara has her Kindergarteners make. They use their fingertips to make the suction parts. You could have them make the body with their fist dipped in paint and the tentacles could be made by dipping their fingers; just make sure you have eight fingers!

These sweet little pjs were so much fun to give! They are made out of seersucker.  We appliqued one of the sunflowers on the shirts.
The girls call them their "happy pants."

Neal’s Aunt Agnes’ Molasses Cookies

Out of Old Nova Scotia Kitchens

Preheat oven to 375° F.

 ½ cup shortening

½ cup butter

1 cup white sugar

1 cup molasses

1 egg

3 tsp. baking soda dissolved in ¾ cup boiling water

1 Tb. vanilla

3-4 cups all-purpose flour

1 tsp. cream of tartar

1 tsp. salt

½ tsp cinnamon

½ tsp ginger

½ tsp cloves

Cream together the shortening, butter and sugar until light.

Blend in the molasses and egg.

Add the baking soda water mixture.

Add vanilla.

Sift together the dry ingredients and add gradually, mixing well to make a soft dough.

Roll out into a ¼” thickness and cut with cookie cutters or roll into balls and flatten on the cookie sheet. (You may need to flour your hands as this dough is sticky. Grease and flour cookie sheet if cookies stick.)

Bake 8-10 minutes.

Makes 6-7 dozen

Crispy Sugar Cookies

1 cup margarine

2 tsp. cream of tartar

½ tsp. salt

2 tsp. baking soda

2 tsp. vanilla

2 eggs

1 cup vegetable oil

2 cups sugar

5 cups flour

Beat all ingredients except flour until fluffy.

Add flour by handfuls, a little at a time.

Chill dough

Roll into balls about the size of a small walnut, roll in sugar and flatten on the cookie sheet.

Bake about 8-12 minutes until just turning light brown.

Remove from pan and cool.
